| ROOIBERGDAM & BIRD VIEWING
The Rooiberg dam is situate 10km on the Van Wyks vlei road. A unique opportunity for bird viewing - About 124 different species of birds were identified. The building of the dam started in 1898. The nearly finished dam wall broke during a thunder storm. It was rebuilt 1931. Unfortunately no perennial stream feeds the Rooiberg dam. You can experience beautiful sunsets at the dam. During summer you can expect Water ducks, flamingo's and other birds.
The endemic dune Red Larks (mirafra burra) are to be seen in the Northern Bushman land. Along a dune stretched farm road, you'll observe this shy bird, while on an engravings and foot impressions expidition, as well as the Karoo long bill, Rooi Valkie (lesser Kestel), Namaqua - Sand- Grouse and doves, the Southern Black Korhaan, the pale chanting Goshawk, the Karoo chat, Kori Bustards, the gigantic Black Eagle and many social weavers in their special formed nests.
