THE GEOLOGY OF THE KENHARDT REGION The Kenhardt map area is situated in the eastern part of the Namaqua Metamorphic Province. It is underlain by diversity of high to medium-grade metasedimentary sequences and granitic, basic an ultra basic intrusive rocks varying in age. In the South these rocks are overlain by unreformed sediments and intrusive sheets of Karoo age .The majority of gneisses are of igneous origin. One of these gneisses outcrops in the Melkboom Dome. The area can however be sub
divided in a
number
of discoed crystal fragments, which are
fragments have been
recognized. Thirteen
different granite have been recognized in the
Hart bees fragment near Kenhardt.
The Southern portion of the map area is underlain by unreformed rocks. The brown windblown sand covers the eastern part of the map and builds dunes some places. A Wide variety of minerals deposits occur in the area. Feldspar is the only commodity that is actively mined at present.
Dolorite - to the south . Foot impressions are to be found on Gneiss (Melkboom), Granite (Hartbees fragment) and dolerite in the South. Foot impressions on igneous bodies of 'millions of years' ???
